Tapered metal drills what are they used for?

These tools will prove useful primarily when machining stainless, carbon, automatic and structural steel, as well as gray iron, electronic copper, brass, aluminum bronze and silver alloys.

Such a wide range of applications makes Morse t aper NWKc metal drill bits very popular among the most demanding professionals. Drills with Morse taper mounting with a fin are designed exclusively for professional machines such as vertical drills, lathes and milling machines regardless of whether they are numerically or conventionally controlled. As a standard, they come in sizes from Fi 3 to even Fi 120 mm ( and larger ), and as the diameter increases, the cone number increases, often denoted by the symbol MK.

Morse cones in drills are found from number MK1 through MK2, MK3, MK4 up to MK5. The tip angle used is most often 118 degrees and very rarely 120 degrees. These drills are used very often for drilling holes with large diameters and therefore when drilling very large holes, intermediate drilling is used, i.e. gradual use of increasingly larger drills. Such practices are used because of the high loads that occur with the drills as they drill the full material. Manufacturers of the presented tools have taken care to meet the required standards that guarantee the durability and robustness of the drill bits. Thus, users can be sure of their reliability and resistance to possible mechanical damage or long-term use.

Professional drills for metal on Morse taper

Morse taper metal drills are made of HSS and HSSE high-speed steel, which are excellent raw materials for the production of tools of this type. The best of the group of HSS steels is SW7M steel, which has a hardness of about 62 HRC and have the ability to drill materials up to 35 HRC. HSSE Inox drills, on the other hand, are designed for machining more demanding materials because the 5% cobalt gives an increase in wear resistance and a greater hardness of the drill bit up to 64 HRC and the ability to drill in materials up to 37 HRC. It is possible to machine such materials as stainless steel, duplex, steel and ductile cast iron and Hardox. In Poland, the largest manufacturer of such drill bits and at the same time the only one is Baildon steelworks from Katowice.
