Morse taper milling cutter designations

Morse taperburrs are defined by two standards: the German DIN and the Polish PN. According to the German standard, burrs have the designation DIN-845 and according to PN NFPc. This designation will determine the type of tool, i.e. the cutter and its Morse taper. These cutters come in both 4-blade, 6-blade and 8-blade versions. The number of blades is related to the diameter of the tool and with diameters Fi 10 - 21 mm there are 4-blade cutters, from 22 - 36 mm - 6-blade, 40 - 63 mm 8-blade. With regard to the working part, Morse taper milling cutters for metal can be divided into four types, short milling cutters, long milling cutters, short milling cutters with chipbreaker and long milling cutters with chipbreaker. Morse taper short milling cutters have the DIN 845 BKN standard designation, while the long version of these cutters has the BLN designation. The designations of milling cutters with chipbreakers are similar; the short version of milling cutters with chipbreakers has the designation BKNR or BKNF, depending on the type of chipbreaker. A round tip chipbreaker is BKNR and a straight chipbreaker is BKNF. Long square milling cutters with chipbreakers have the DIN 845 standard and the analogous designation BLNF and BLNR.
