Diamond dressers are designed for profiling and sharpening ceramic-bonded grinding wheels, in order to eliminate the wheel's circularity errors of its radial and axial runout, or to remove contaminated and blunted working layer. Diamond multi-grain dressers can also be used when dressing grinding wheels made of super-hard materials such as diamond or borazon.

Adequate cooling and correctly selecting the size of the allowance to be removed contributes to extending their service life.
We can distinguish between two types of diamond dressers. The first are single-grain dressers - characterized by the deposition of a single large diamond grain in the holder. The choice of the correct diamond size depends on the diameter of the abrasive disc and the width of the disc. The second type is multigrain diamond dressers. They work well for straight dressing at high speeds and low technical requirements, and where it is necessary to change a previously given shape to a straight one.
