The Unified system consists of: UNF – fine threads, UNEF – extra fine threads, UNS – special nonstandard threads, and UN – constant-pitch threads: 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 20, 28, or 32 threads per inch.
The UNC standard has a coarser pitch and fewer threads per inch than UNF. A diameter of 1 1/2 inch has 6 threads per inch in UNC and 12 threads per inch in UNF. Thread pitch gauges are used for measurement.
