UNC No 5-40 HSS die – precise inch thread for small mechanical components
UNC No 5-40 die enables production of miniature external threads with a diameter of No 5 (3.18 mm) and a fine pitch of 40 threads per inch. The tool is intended for electronics, monitoring and measuring equipment, and precision mechanisms. HSS 800 steel provides long service life.

A No 5 thread has a diameter of 3.18 mm (0.125 inch). Conversion factor: 1 inch = 25.4 mm. Calculation: 0.125 × 25.4 = 3.18 mm.
The Unified system consists of: UNF – fine threads, UNEF – extra fine threads, UNS – special nonstandard threads, and UN – constant-pitch threads with 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 20, 28, or 32 threads per inch.
The UNC standard has a coarser pitch and fewer threads per inch than UNF. Size No 5 has 40 threads in the UNC version and 44 threads per inch in the UNF version. Thread pitch gauges are used for identification.
