Die UN 1/2-16 HSS – inch threading die for threads with a pitch of 16 TPI
UN 1/2-16 die is a tool designed to cut external threads to the American constant-pitch standard. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) in accordance with DIN 22568, it cuts threads with a diameter of 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) and 16 threads per inch on rods and machine components.

A diameter of 1/2 inch equals exactly 12.7 mm. The conversion factor is 25.4 mm per inch. Calculation: 0.5 × 25.4 = 12.7 mm.
UN features a constant pitch for every diameter, whereas UNC and UNF pitches vary depending on size. For example, UN 16 always has 16 threads per inch, regardless of thread diameter.
The UN standard includes the following constant pitches: 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 20, 28, and 32 threads per inch. Pitch selection depends on the technical requirements and loads of the joint.
