Vernier caliper 150 mm of the MAUa type is a versatile four-function instrument: a single caliper measures external dimensions, internal dimensions, depths, and steps. Read the result from the main scale and the vernier with 0.02 mm graduations — without batteries or electronics, so the instrument is always ready to use, even after years in storage.
The lower jaws measure external dimensions, the upper jaws fit into holes and grooves, and the flat depth gauge extending from the beam reaches the bottom of blind holes. The body is made of carbon steel. A clamping screw locks the slider — you can transfer the measured dimension without the risk of the setting shifting.
The absence of electronics is a practical workshop advantage of a vernier caliper: coolant, grinding dust, and magnetic fields do not affect it. After use, simply wipe the beam and put the instrument away — maintain calibration through periodic checks with gauge blocks.

Resolution, maximum permissible errors, and application range
The 0.02 mm graduation specifies reading resolution, not measurement accuracy. Accuracy is limited by DIN 862:2015 — for the 150 mm range, the maximum permissible error for external measurement falls within ±0.02–0.03 mm, while internal and depth measurements have a higher limit. In practice, technique also matters: read the scale straight on, apply moderate pressure, and keep the measuring faces clean.

Caliper application limits
For tolerances below 0.05 mm, a caliper is no longer sufficient — use a micrometer. Measure at a temperature close to 20°C: steel expands by approximately 11.5 µm per meter per degree Celsius, so a workpiece that is 10°C warmer produces an error of approximately 17 µm over a length of 150 mm.
