How a spiral flute tap evacuates chips from a blind hole

The 35° flute works like a screw conveyor

The flutes of this tap spiral to the right at an angle of 35° to the axis. The tap rotates clockwise and advances into the hole. Chips cut by the chamfer enter the flute, and the helix carries them upward like the auger in a meat grinder. The bottom of the hole stays clean, and the cutting edges do not encounter packed chips. The M2.6 x0.45 tap has a reinforced shank to DIN 371: diameter 2.8 mm, square 2.1 mm.

M2.6 x0.45 DIN 371 tap – diagram of chip movement and direction of rotation during tapping
1
The 35° spiral flute carries chips upward from the chamfer.
2
The stepped chip exits the hole and breaks into short pieces.
3
The tap rotates clockwise to cut a right-hand thread.
4
Chamfer C: 2–3 incomplete threads on the tapered lead.
5
Clearance below the tap tip – min. 2 thread pitches above the bottom.
6
Feed 0.45 mm/rev, equal to the pitch of the M2.6 x0.45 thread.

M2.6 machine tap for blind holes – HSSE DIN 371

The M2.6 machine tap is a professional tool for cutting internal threads in blind holes. Made of HSSE high-speed steel with 5% cobalt and a hardness of 65-67 HRC, it provides optimum cutting edge life and stable operation at temperatures up to 650°C. Tolerance 6H in accordance with DIN 371.

Main advantages of the M2.6 machine tap

  • HSSE material – hardness of 65-67 HRC and heat resistance up to 650°C
  • Chamfer C (2÷3 threads) – optimal for blind holes
  • Tolerance 6H – standard accuracy grade for bolted joints
  • Compliance with DIN 371 – verified dimensional quality
  • 35° spiral flutes – efficient rearward chip evacuation

The M2.6 machine tap is used in toolrooms and maintenance departments. The recommended tap drill diameter is 2.1 mm.
