How a spiral flute tap evacuates chips from a blind hole
The 40° flute works like a screw conveyor
The flutes of this tap spiral to the right at an angle of 40° to the axis. The tap rotates clockwise and advances into the hole. The chip cut by the chamfer enters the flute, and the helix carries it upward like the auger in a meat grinder. The bottom of the hole stays clean, and the cutting edges do not encounter packed chips. The UNF 7/16-20 tap has a reduced shank in accordance with DIN 374: diameter 8 mm, square 6.2 mm.

7/16-20 UNF American machine tap for blind holes
High-quality professional 7/16-20 machine tap UNF with a reinforced shank for machine cutting American Unified threads, type UNF (fine threads). These are inch threads with a diameter of 7/16 inch, 20 threads per inch. Chamfer type C (2 – 3 P) – for through and blind holes in short-chipping materials. The threads have a triangular profile (60° angle).
The finished thread tolerance class is 2B. Our store offers high-grade Unified thread machine taps manufactured in accordance with DIN 374/40 from advanced, high-quality high-speed steel with 5% cobalt added. This exceptional cobalt steel enables high machining productivity, reduces tapping time per component, and thus allows more efficient use of available workstations. In addition, our 7/16-20 UNF machine taps are highly resistant to elevated temperatures (up to 670°C), allowing high-speed machining. The tap cutting edges resist mechanical damage, significantly extending their service life.
