STGCR 25x25 16 turning tool – for facing and longitudinal turning

25×25 mm indexable turning tool for a TCMT insert

Turning tool STGCR 25x25 16 is an indexable turning tool designed for external turning on conventional and CNC lathes. The shank, with a cross section of 25×25 mm and a length of 150 mm, provides the rigidity required for industrial machining. The geometry with an entering angle of 90° allows facing and turning along a shoulder.

In the central screw clamping system (S), a screw clamps the TCMT 1604rr insert through its hole, so replacement requires loosening only one screw. The positive geometry of the 60° triangular insert with 3 cutting edges is suitable for finishing, providing low cutting forces and a smooth machined surface. The tool is compatible with TCMT 16 inserts in various carbide grades — select the grade to match the workpiece material.

Typical applications of the STGCR 25x25 16 turning tool

Cutting operations:

▸ Facing — the 90° angle provides uniform cutting of the end face
▸ Turning along shoulders — the right angle allows machining 90° corners
▸ Machining steel and cast iron — positive TCMT geometry provides low cutting forces
▸ Turning steps and flanges — machining diameter transitions
▸ CNC production runs — repeatable cutting edge positioning and quick replacement

✗ TCMT 1604rr cutting insert (sold separately) —

Compatible TCMT 1604rr insert

TCMT 1604rr

The cutting insert is not included in the set — must be purchased separately. TCMT insert. Positive geometry means that the insert is single-sided and has 3 cutting edges, providing low cutting forces and good surface quality.

Select the insert grade to match the workpiece material: P (structural steels), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (aluminum). You can find compatible inserts in the section "Related products" below.

Insert installation and replacement for the STGCR 25x25 16 turning tool

Instructions for the center screw clamping system (S)

Insert replacement procedure step by step

1 Unscrew the screw

Unscrew the center screw 2-3 turns

2 Clean the insert seat

Remove chips and debris

3 Install the insert

Position in the seat

4 Tighten the screw

Torque 1.0–2.0 Nm

Important: Do not exceed the recommended tightening torque — this may damage the thread in the seat or crack the insert.

Checks before starting work:

▸ Tool overhang — do not exceed 1.5× the shank height without support
▸ Cutting edge height — set the cutting edge at spindle centerline height
▸ Insert seat condition — check that the contact surface is not damaged or worn
▸ Secure clamping — the insert must have no play in the seat
▸ Indexing — when an edge wears out, rotate the insert to a fresh edge (3 edges in total)

Note: Use coolant during machining — it extends insert life and improves surface finish. When machining without coolant, reduce the cutting parameters by 20–30%.

Frequently asked questions — STGCR 25x25 16

This tool accepts inserts TCMT 1604rr in any carbide grade. Select the grade to match the workpiece material: P (steels), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (aluminum). You can find compatible inserts in the "Related products" section below.

The entering angle of 90° provides facing perpendicular to the axis and turning along shoulders. Suitable for machining flanges, steps and right-angle corners on the workpiece.

The TCMT insert has positive geometry (clearance angle 7°), which means that it is single-sided with 3 cutting edges. When one edge wears out, rotate the insert to a fresh edge.
