Die UNS 1/4-36 LH HSS – left-hand inch threading die for special threads
Die UNS 1/4-36 LH is a specialized tool for cutting left-hand external threads with a nonstandard pitch in the American Unified National Special system. Made of high-speed steel (HSS) in accordance with DIN 22568, it cuts left-hand threads with a diameter of 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) and 36 threads per inch.

A diameter of 1/4 inch corresponds to 6.35 mm. The inch-to-millimeter conversion factor is 25.4 mm/inch. Calculation: 0.25 × 25.4 = 6.35 mm.
UNS (Unified National Special) designates a thread with a nonstandard combination of diameter and pitch. For 1/4 inch, the standards are: UNC 20 TPI, UNF 28 TPI, UNEF 32 TPI. A pitch of 36 TPI does not occur in any of these series, so it is designated UNS.
The Unified system also includes: UNC – coarse threads, UNF – fine threads, UNEF – extra fine threads, and UN – constant-pitch threads with 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 20, 28, or 32 threads per inch.
