Right-hand MGGN 300 R parting and grooving insert – directional 3 mm insert for steel and stainless steel

Grade H6310 with CVD coating

The right-hand MGGN 300 R JM H6310 Horn insert is a right-hand directional carbide insert with a cutting edge width of 3 mm, designed for parting shafts and cutting external grooves on conventional and CNC lathes. Unlike neutral MGMN inserts, the MGGN 300 R features right-hand directional geometry for improved chip evacuation when feeding toward the chuck. The CVD-coated cemented carbide grade H6310 covers the ISO P20-P40 and M10-M25 application ranges, providing versatility in machining unalloyed, alloy, and stainless steels. Its compact profile dimensions (d = 1.6 mm, t = 3.5 mm) allow machining in confined spaces. The right-hand insert is compatible exclusively with left-hand (L) indexable tools with a spring clamping system.

Key features of the right-hand MGGN 300 R H6310 Horn insert

  • Right-hand directional geometry (R) provides an optimal rake angle and controlled chip evacuation when feeding toward the lathe chuck
  • CVD coating resistant to temperatures of 700-1000°C maintains cutting edge stability even during intensive parting at high feed rates
  • Grade H6310 in the ISO P20-P40 and M10-M25 ranges provides an optimal balance between hardness and chipping resistance when machining steel and stainless steels
  • Cutting edge width of 3 mm with a compact profile (d = 1.6 mm, t = 3.5 mm) enables parting off shafts and cutting grooves for retaining rings and seals
  • Compatibility exclusively with left-hand (L) MGEHL holders with shank sizes from 16x16 mm to 32x32 mm and with parting blades for deep cutting
  • The chip breaker geometry ensures controlled chip evacuation from the narrow groove without the risk of jamming or surface damage

The right-hand MGGN 300 R parting and grooving insert is suitable for series production of shaft components, machining hydraulic housings, and cutting grooves for retaining rings. Right-hand directional geometry is particularly recommended for operations requiring consistent chip evacuation in one direction. The recommended cutting speed Vc is 120-180 m/min for structural steel and 80-120 m/min for stainless steel at feed rates of 0.05-0.15 mm/rev. Emulsion cooling extends cutting edge life by a factor of 2-3 compared with dry machining.

Frequently asked questions

The right-hand MGGN 300 R insert features right-hand directional geometry, meaning the cutting edge is optimized for feeding in one direction (toward the chuck). MGMN 300 is a neutral insert that works in both directions. MGGN also has a smaller profile (d = 1.6 mm, t = 3.5 mm versus d = 3.3 mm, t = 4.8 mm for MGMN), enabling machining in tighter spaces. The right-hand MGGN insert fits only left-hand (L) turning tools.

The right-hand MGGN 300 R insert in grade H6310 is suitable for machining structural and alloy steels in the ISO P20-P40 range and stainless and acid-resistant steels in the ISO M10-M25 range. It can also part off gray cast iron and cast steel.

The right-hand MGGN 300 R insert has right-hand directional geometry with a cutting edge designed for use in a left-hand tool (L). Installing it in a right-hand tool (R) would result in an incorrect rake angle, poor chip evacuation, and accelerated cutting edge wear. Right-hand tools require the MGGN 300 L insert (left-hand directional).
