The first two digits in the designation indicate the tool post shank height; the last two indicate the height of the blade held. Blocks 2026 and 2526 accept SPB x26 blades; blocks 2032, 2532, and 3232 accept SPB x32 blades.
Varel blades compatible with the SMBB 2532 block
The block accepts Varel SPB blades with a height of 32 mm and a length of 150 mm: SPB 332, SPB 432, and SPB 532. The first digit of the code indicates the cutting width in mm; the last two indicate the blade height. Each blade has a spring-clamping pocket for an SP insert at both ends.

The blade body is thinner than the insert, so the sides of the blade do not rub against the groove walls. Cutting depth is limited by the blade height below the insert pocket — 25 mm for SPB x32 blades — and the radius of the bar being parted off must be smaller than this height.

After every change in workpiece diameter, adjust the blade overhang and check screw clamping.
How far should the blade extend?
Overhang ≈ D/2 + 2–3 mm allowance. For a Ø30 mm bar: 30 ÷ 2 + 3 = 18 mm — this much blade extending beyond the block jaw is enough to cut to the centerline. Every additional millimeter of overhang reduces rigidity.

Set the minimum overhang that allows the workpiece to be parted off — excess overhang reduces rigidity and causes vibration. When parting through solid material, direct coolant into the cutting gap and reduce the feed before breakthrough.
The SMBB 2532 parting tool block is the foundation of a parting setup on an engine lathe with a 25 mm tool post. One body accommodates three Varel SPB blades with a height of 32 mm and cutting widths of 3–5 mm — change the cutting width by replacing the blade, not the entire holder. Replace the SP insert in the blade's spring-clamping pocket without removing the block from the tool post.
